Day 1 Leh, Ladakh (20th Aug, 2011)

It had been my intention to feel the beauty of the mother nature on my own, since quite a long time. To pursue this ambition I along with 4 other of my friends decided upon Leh as the destination. This is the answer to "Why Leh as a destination for vacation?".

We had an early morning flight of 0445 hrs from IG airport, New Delhi to Leh airport. The duration of this flight is about one hour. All friends did not sleep the entire night, and here is the pic just before we left friends flat in Dwarka for the airport at 0230 hrs.

We had the back row seats for the left side of the plane, initially it was dark but thereafter we started noticing dense white clouds. I was getting a bit jealous with the passengers on the right side of the plane, for they were getting the view of the most amazing sunrise that I had ever seen. The clouds with that golden rays of the sun seemed to be burning. The sight was such that it cannot be described in words. And unfortunately could not shoot those moments with my camera.

We were 15 mins from landing, and it seemed as if GOD had answered me, the dense clouds started disappearing and we got the glimpse of the snow clad peaks, meandering rivers.

And then the pilot turned the plane towards the left further down to give us the glimpse of a beautiful lake. I forgot all my jealousy in the breath taking view.

Thereafter we landed at the airport, thought the strip is small and the landing was a bit rough (in terms that the plane has to be stopped immediately after touch down).
A mini bus took us to the terminal from the runway, and the photography is completely prohibited at this military establishment so could not click any pics inside.

After getting the luggage, we were received by the driver (named Sonam) sent by the tour operator. Within 15 mins we were dropped off at our hotel on Changspa Street and advised a rest upto afternoon for acclimatisation.

In the evening around 1600 hrs we went out with the same driver to Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace.
